Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday invited Canadian entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh's special economic zones (SEZs).

The minister told Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka Benoit Prefontaine during a view exchange meeting at his ministry office that Canadian investors will benefit if they make investment in Bangladesh's SEZ.

Mentioning that Bangladesh is developing 100 SEZs at the initiative of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Tofail said Bangladesh's investment policy is fully business friendly.

"Anyone could make investment here and take back the investment with profit any time," the minister said  adding that Bangladesh protects the interest of investor by the law.

Terming Canada as a big market and business partner of Bangladesh, the minister laid emphasis on expanding the market for Bangladeshi products.

In last fiscal, Bangladesh exported products of $ 1079.18 million against the import of $ 598.50 million.

The Canadian high commissioner said Bangladeshi RMG is very popular in Canada and so import of the apparel items would increase in future.

Praising Bangladesh's role in Rohingya crisis, he said Bangladesh has done a good job by giving shelter to Rohingya people, and thanked the government for this.

Benoit Prefontaine also termed Bangladesh's investment environment as excellent and hoped Canadian investors would come up with investment in Bangladesh.
