A 13-day solo painting show by artist Halimul Islam Khokon, 'Images of Inner Vision', will begin Friday in the capital's La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka.

Artist Shahid Kabir will grace the occasion as chief guest while professor Syed Azizul Huq of Dhaka University will attend the inaugural ceremony as special guest. Artist and critic Mustofa Zaman will also join the inaugural program as guest of honour, says a press statement of Alliance Française de Dhaka.

A seasoned ceramic artist, Halimul Islam Khokon, earned his master's of fine arts (MFA) from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka and studied in Japan under the supervision of professor Ryoji Koie, one of the great masters of Japanese ceramics.

After participating in more than 40 group exhibitions and four solo exhibitions, Halimul, now an enthusiastic painter, will present 40 paintings in this exhibition.

These paintings - which can be categorised as experimental abstract art, take encouragement from his well-developed ceramicist artistry, taking inspiration from the Bangladeshi culture, tradition and history.

The paintings also depict primitive cave art forms and different textural abstract forms.

Halimul often focuses on the power of animal figures and shapes, or, among other things, brings patterns from moss-covered and paint-peeled walls or from glittering aqueous shapes.

Artist and critic Mustofa Zaman said, “These are imageries through which Halimul, perhaps, makes an attempt to return to an imaginary 'plain of origin'."

The exhibition will be open to all till 2 August 2018 at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka. People can visit the exibition from from 3:00pm to 9:00pm ( Monday to Thursday),  and from 9:00am to12:00 noon and 5:00pm to 8:00pm (Friday and Saturday).
