It’s Christmas. Jesus Christ was born 2017 years ago in Bethlehem, a town close to Jerusalem. He came as the saviour of mankind, to lead people away from envy, hate and evil, to the path of love, kindness and harmony. His birthday is a joyous celebration for Christians all over the world.

Jesus’ message of humanity has universal relevance. His call for peace carries appeal for all. Jesus’ sacrifice was against all that is bad. He stood up for the oppressed. He himself faced inhuman oppression while preaching. But no amount of suffering could detract him from the path of the truth. He was crucified in his efforts to convey the message of love and humanity.

The world today is rife with violence and conflict. The message of Jesus could be a guiding light amidst this unrest. Every religion upholds humanity. The spirit of Christmas is also all about humanity. Let Christmas thus guide the misguided back onto the right path.

On the occasion of Christmas we extend our greetings to Christians in Bangladesh and all over the world. We pray for the welfare and emancipation of everyone, regardless of religion, race, caste or creed. Just as Jesus offered redemption for mankind, sacrificed his life to release people from sufferings and pain, we hope that the spirit of freedom and sacrifice spreads over the world. Let Jesus’ control, tolerance and love be a model for all to follow. Let Christmas usher in peace, love and harmony for all. Let the world be rid of hatred and unrest. Merry Christmas to one and all.
