Tigers' meek surrender

Bangladesh lost nine wickets in the space of 79 runs as New Zealand recorded a 67-run win on Thursday to seal the three-match ODI series with a game to spare.

The Tigers looked set for a victory when Sabbir Rahman and Imrul Kayes led them past 100 at the loss of a solitary wicket, but a shambolic run out turned the table upside down and the visitors ended up getting all out for 184 from 105 for 1.

A little misunderstanding between the duo saw them both running to the same end and the third umpire had to intervene to declare who should return to the pavillion. It was Sabbir who had to go after making 38 with two fours and three sixes.

The likes of Mahmudullah and Shakib Al Hasan cut a sorry figure with the bat and Imrul, the highest scorer with 59 off 89 balls, soon joined them in the dressing room. Debutant Nurul Hasan's 24 and skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza's 17 could only slash the deficit.

It was a special day for Kiwi captain Kane Williamson, the part-time bowler bagging three wickets for only the second time in his career. Strike bowlers Trent Boult and Tim Southee bagged two wickets each.

Earlier, Neil Broom scored an unbeaten 109 but Bangladesh bowlers staged a great performance to restrict the hosts to 251.

Winning the toss, Mashrafe had opted to bowl first and the pacer himself led an onslaught, removing Martin Guptill in the very first over for a duck.

Taskin Ahmed then sent Williamson (14) back to the pavillion while Shakib also picked up last match's hero Tom Latham (22) as the hosts were soon down to 47 for 3.

Broom was a different story though, as the batsman made 109 in 107 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes to keep his team in the game.

But the others could not offer much resistance and all they could manage was a decent 251 thanks to James Neesham's 28 and Luke Ronchi's 35.

Bangladesh gave three youngsters -- wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan, pacer Subashis Roy and spinner Tanbir Hayder -- their ODI debut in the match.

Mashrafe was the most successful bowler, bagging three wickets while Taskin and Shakib claimed two each. Subashis and Mosaddek Hossain grabbed one wicket apiece.

Broom was duly adjudged the Player of the Match as the Tigers look forward to Saturday's last ODI for a consolation win.
