Tamim in ICC Champions Trophy team

Tamim Iqbal.Photo:ReutersOpener Tamim Iqbal is the only Bangladeshi cricketer who got berth in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 team announced by the International Cricket Council on Monday.

A panel of juries of the international governing body of cricket selected Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed to lead the best XII of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

Tamim, whose fine run (293 runs) in the tournament helped Bangladesh reach the semis, has been slotted in at No 3.

The panel of legendary former cricketers including England’s Michael Atherton, Indias Sourav Ganguly and Ramiz Raja of Pakistan, among others, selected four Pakistanis, three Englishmen and one from Bangladesh with New Zealands Kane Williamson as the 12th man.

The four Pakistanis included left-handed opening batsman Fakhar Zaman, pace duo of Junaid Khan and Hasan Ali besides Sarfraz, who also doubles up as the wicketkeeper.

Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Adil Rashid were the three Englishmen while Tamim Iqbal was the lone Bangladeshi in the team.

Dhawan and Hasan had won the Golden Bat and Golden Ball trophies respectively for finishing as the most successful batsman and bowler.

Tamim was selected after he essentially drove Bangladesh into their maiden semi-finals in a major International Cricket Council (ICC) event.

Pakistans Fakhar Zaman was picked as Dhawans opening partner after the youngster aggregated 252 runs in four matches at an impressive strike-rate of 113.
