Tigers earn biggest ODI victory
All-round performance from Shakib Al Hasan with three wickets and 50-plus runs following half centuries from Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim helped Bangladesh secure a record victory against Sri Lanka in the third match of Tri-Nation Series on Friday.
The Tigers won by 163 runs, the biggest victory against any team in the One Day International (ODI) history.
With man-of-the-match Shakib, Bangladesh bowlers had a fantastic day as ODI skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and pacer Rubel Hossain bagged two wickets each.
Mustafizur Rahman and Nasir Hossain picked one wicket apiece.
Bangladesh earlier set Sri Lanka a formidable 321-run target, batting first at Mirpur.
The Lankans managed to score 157 runs only, thanks to Thisara Perera’s 29, who was the highest scorer for Lankans, followed by Dinesh Chandimal (28).
Tamim made 84 runs off 102 balls while Shakib and Mushfiqur scored 67 off 63-ball and 62 off 52-ball respectively. They steered the hosts to 320 for 7, their sixth highest team total in an innings.
It was also a cameo of Sabbir Rahman which ensured Bangladesh’s imposing total. Sabbir hit 24 off 12 balls with the help of three fours and a six.
While bowling, Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe smashed the top orders of the visitors with double strike.
All-rounder Shakib AL Hassan then joined the fun, accelerating the Lankan defeat with two wickets in a single over and one later in the consecutive over.
Thisara Perera was the most successful bowler of Sri Lanka picking up three wickets while Nuwan Pradeep took two, and Akila Dananjaya and Asela Gunaratne took one wicket each.
