While Antoine Griezmann's introduction gave France the edge in their last-16 victory over Nigeria, it left coach Didier Deschamps no closer to knowing his strongest attacking configuration.

Griezmann came in for Olivier Giroud with 28 minutes remaining and the match goalless, allowing Karim Benzema to move into his preferred central role from the left. Griezmann soon teed up Benzema for a shot that Victor Moses hacked off the line.

After Paul Pogba scored in the 79th minute, Griezmann forced Nigeria's Joseph Yobo to divert a cross into his own net in injury time.

"Griezmann added something when he came on," Benzema said.

"We found more space behind their defence, whereas in the first half, we weren't able to."
