Mentoring session emphasises youth leadership

Time has come to infuse leadership characteristics into today’s youth, mentors told a group of youngsters at a session on Saturday.

Young boys and girls were advised to build themselves as active citizens so that they could contribute to the society and the nation positively.

The speakers came up with the advice at the closing session of a four-day 'Active Citizens Youth Leadership Training in Charghat upazila in Rajshahi.

"Globally Connected, Locally Engaged" was the theme of the training programme  attended by 32 students including 12 girls from different educational institutions, according to BSS.

The speakers termed the young generation a vital power for the nation and insisted that they must be built as worthy citizens through enhancing their level of confidence.

The Hunger Project-Bangladesh (THPB) and British Council jointly organised the training with the goal of creating a new generation of young leaders.

The discussants said each of the youths should have commitment to building a poverty-free and self-reliant Bangladesh.

Upazila social service officer Mofizul Islam, women affairs officer Shimul Billah Sultana and assistant secondary education officer Abul Kamal Azad shared their knowledge and experience relating to youth development issues.

Area Coordinator of THPB Subrata Kumar Paul, active citizen facilitators Kawsar Billah, Jannat Sharmin, Ashraful Islam Sarker and Mustafizur Rahman also spoke.

Subrata Paul said through a series of exciting and interactive sessions the participants will share their ideas and experiences and contribute to intercultural dialogue.

The training included several individual and group presentations on social issues through which participants demonstrated their creativity and communication skills.
