A total of 102 students of Mathbaria Safa Degree College, Pirojpur, will not be able to sit for their yearly examinations.

The students, who were enrolled in under-graduation level, fear such a situation will harm their academic life.

The reason behind the students' suffering is the failure of the college authorities to deposit their fees in due time, although the students paid money as required for registration of yearly examinations and in time, both students and current authorities said.

When asked, principal of the college Harun-or-Rashid said the students are suffering due to negligence of the former acting principal and the admission committee convener of the college at that time.

"But no one can take any measure against them since they are very influential," the printipal said.

The former acting principal, Ranajit Chandra Mistri, and the admission committee convener, who is also a teacher at the college, Badshah Mia, took Tk 1,500 to 2,000 from the students as registration fee.

They were supposed to deposit Tk 485 per student to NU for their registration within January 2016. As the time expired long ago, the NU declined to register the students.

The principal also said he contacted with the National University (NU) authorities to resolve this, but, unfortunately, he admitted, they declined to register the students so late.

However, the NU vice chancellor has been approached to take special care of this matter. He will take the decision, the principal said.

In case, the NU does not register them this time, the students will have to enroll again next year and in that case, they will be deprived of scholarships, he said.

When contacted, Badshah Mia said, “I was busy in other works of the college; so I didn’t handle the registration issue.”

Ranajit Chandra Mistri, however, could not be reached over phone.
