Yunus Centre offered Khazanah scholarship to six Bangladeshi students for pursuing graduate and postgraduate programmes at foreign universities this year.

One of them has been chosen for a global scholarship in Cambridge University and  University of California at Berkeley, said a Yunus Centre press release on Wednesday.

Five have been awarded the scholarships for studying in Malaysian universities.

The six awardees have been selected from a list 18 final candidates prepared through rigorous screening earlier this year.

Every year Yayasan Khazanah Foundation, Malaysia in collaboration with Khazanah Nasional's partner and investee companies, offers scholarships to deserving candidates from Bangladesh, Indonesia and Palestine to pursue their undergraduate and postgraduate education at selected leading universities in Malaysia and beyond.

Nobel peace laureate professor Muhammad Yunus proposed to the CEO of Khazanah to offer these scholarships to Bangladeshi students in 2008.

Since then this scholarship is given every year,  and it is facilitated by Yunus Centre, which liaises with top universities and schools in Bangladesh for the candidate selection and also receives nomination from Grameen Bank and Grameen Shikkha.
