Bangladesh Bank has called for an emergency meeting on Tuesday, following protests over a recruitment test of the eight state-owned banks a few days ago.

The central bank authorities asked the chief of the Bankers Selection Committee and executives of the 14 state-owned banks for the meeting after a group of job seekers threatened to go to the court if the recruitment exam was not cancelled.

“An emergency meeting has been called to discuss some important issues following protest over a recent bank’s recruitment,’ said Mosharraf Hossain Khan, chief of the Bankers Selection Committee and Bangladesh Bank’s general manager.

A group of job seekers on Sunday demanded cancelation of the recruitment test of eight state-owned banks with nine-point

demands following mismanagement during the test.

The nine-point demands include retake of the exam, scrapping the one held on 12 January, resignation of the member secretary of the Bankers’ Selection Committee (BSC), ensuring seats for each of the contestants at the centres, cancellation of disputed centres and giving the responsibility of preparing questions to entities other than Dhaka University.

On 12 January, recruitment tests for Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Rupali Bank, Bangladesh Development Bank, Bangladesh Krishi Bank, Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank, Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation and the Investment Corporation of Bangladesh was held.

However, candidates at the Shah Ali Mohilla College centre vandalised the centre and blocked roads as they did not get seats there.
