40 DU students awarded Sumitomo Corporation Scholarship

A total of 40 students from different academic years of Dhaka University (DU) were awarded with Sumitomo Corporation Scholarship in Japan on Thursday at Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the university.

Vice-chancellor of DU professor Md Akhtaruzzaman presided over the function while Treasurer of DU professor Md Kamal Uddin, general manager of the Sumitomo Corporation Naoto Yamada and representatives from Japan Embassy in Bangladesh Machiko Yamamura addressed it.

Advisor of the Sumitomo Corporation Khondker Ali Ershad declared the names of awardees while acting director of DU planning and development office Jiban Kumar Mishra moderated the program.

Akhtaruzzaman congratulated the awardees and thanked the Sumitomo Corporation authorities for providing scholarship to DU meritorious students. He urged the students to prepare themselves as skilled human resources to make Bangladesh a prosperous country.

Awardees of different years are honours first year - Mousumi Akter (mathematics), Sujata Amin (law), Suvajit Halder (finance), Subrata Kumar Das (marketing), Monirul Islam and Md Ariful Islam (international business), Ety Akter (public administration), Tonmoy Shaha Zoy (mass communication and journalism), Raz Kumar Halder (soil, water & environment) and Kazi Kamrun Nahar Ananya (nuclear engineering).

Honours second year awardees are Md Mohtasir Billah Siraz (physics), Md Emon Arefin (banking and insurance), Tanvir Ahmed (management information systems), Kutub Uddin Khan (economics), Farhana Feroz Meem (soil, water and environment), Md Rafiul Islam Ranga (microbiology), Tasnuma Tabassum Antara (pharmacy), Md Alamgir Kabir (pharmacy), You Mong Sing (geology) and Labibuzaman Mustabin (nuclear engineering).

Third year (hons.) students are Fariha Tasnim (physics), Mishu Rani Mazumder (mathematics), Prantika Mutsuddi (management studies), Amit Barua (accounting & information systems), Amal Chandra Mondal (marketing), Md. Kamrul Hasan (banking & insurance), Lizainul Islam Ripon (international business), Kazi Golam Tasfiq (economics), Jannatul Rafeya (microbiology) and Zarif Hossain (genetic engineering & bio-technology).

Honours fourth year students are Md Alamgir Hossain (English), Asia Haque (Physics), Nurun Naher (Accounting & Information Systems), Sugandha Jesmin (Marketing), Mahmuda Sultana (Management Studies), Kazi Mahbuba Ahmed (Economics), Ema Sultana Charu (Public Administration), Syed Hasan Imtiaz (Genetic Engineering and Bio-Technology), Sirajum Munira (Pharmacy) and Jinher Zahedi (IBA).
