Don't compromise with corruption, untruth, president asks students

President M Abdul Hamid on Tuesday asked the students to give the highest priority to national interest and not to compromise with injustice, untruth and corruption.

"Never bow down to any injustice and untruth . . . Always try to uphold the dignity of your certificates by rendering proper services with honesty, sincerity and patriotism," he told the graduating students at second convocation of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur, this afternoon.

The president, also the chancellor of the DUET, asked the new graduates to uphold the spirit of the freedom struggle and independence and always think about the development of society as well as the country alongside their personal progress.

President Hamid urged all concerned to give importance to offset the adverse impacts of climate change and ensure the country's continued advancement by acquiring world-standard knowledge and wisdom to compete in the global competition.

"Bear in mind that we have to be economically self-reliant to uphold our dignity," he advised the students and said that the young engineers should utilize their creative thoughts and acquired knowledge for this.

Noting that the incumbent government is giving importance to expansion of the overall academic activities of universities, including the research works, President Hamid also asked the authorities concerned to reach the results of research and new invention to the doorstep of the common people as well.

The President asked the university teachers and students to contribute significantly to materialize the dream of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh in line with the "Vision-2021 and Vision-2041" designed by prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

Terming Bangladesh a role model of development across the globe as it has put a sign of tremendous development in all sides of socio-economic sector, the president said the country in the meantime attained the status of a developing country.

Referring to teacher-student relations , he said, "The teachers should be more affectionate and like guardians as friendly relations between students and teachers can play an effective role to maintain a congenial academic atmosphere in varsities."

Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) professor Abdul Mannan was the convocation speaker while DUET vice-chancellor Mohammad Alauddin also spoke on the occasion.

Among others, liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Md Zahid Ashan Russel.MP, local political leaders and secretaries to the president, among others were present at the function.
