A faction of ruling Awami League leaning teachers at Jahangirnagar University will observe a daylong strike on the campus on Tuesday protesting what they said the violation of act and statute of the university by the vice-chancellor professor Farzana Islam, news agency UNB reports

The teachers, led by the university's former vice chancellor professor Shariff Enamul Kabir, will refrain from taking classes and examinations, a press release said.

Signed by Bangabadhur Adarsha O Muktijuddher Chetonay Biswasi Progotishil Sikkhak Samaj spokesperson professor Amir Hussain, it said that the vice-chancellor has recently withdrawn provosts of nine halls and this is a violation of the university act.

The press release goes on to say that as per the university act, a syndicate meeting should be held every month but the present vice chancellor has failed to call any syndicate meeting in the last three months.

It said the vice chancellor Farzana Islam cancelled the syndicate meeting scheduled to be held on April 12.

It added that the teachers’ platform will announce its next programme at a press conference at 4 pm on Tuesday.
