EU holds sixth convocation

The sixth convocation of Eastern University (EU) was held conferring degrees to 2,972 graduates of the university at its permanent campus in Ashulia on Saturday.

On behalf of president Md Abdul Hamid, also chancellor of the university, deputy minister for education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury chaired the ceremony and conferred degrees to the graduates.

JoAnne Wagner, charge d’ affaires, the US embassy in Dhaka spoke as the convocation speaker.

Among the graduates, two students of Faculty of Business Administration — Nowshin Rahman and Sraboni Sarkar — received Chancellor’s Gold Medal.

Three students – Sadia Afrin from Arts Faculty, Ananya Islam from Business Administration and Nushera Tazrin Darin from LLM received Chairman’s Gold Medal.

Four students - Debika Sinha Gargi from Arts Faculty, Md Nazmul Islam Jihad from Business Administration, Md Tarek from Engineering and Technology and Masuma Dil Afroz from Law Department received Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal.

Mohibul Hassan urged the students to take leadership in different sectors to expedite the dream of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said all universities must maintain quality of education.

Prof Kazi Shahidullah, chairman of the University Grants Commission, attended it as the special guest while Prof Shahid Akhter Hossain, EU vice-chancellor, Liaquat Hossain Moghul, chairman, Board of Trustees of EU and Prof Tahmina Ahmed, dean of Arts Faculty of EU, also addressed the function.
