4 get death, 7 imprisoned for life for double murder

A court in Kushtia on Sunday sentenced four people to death and seven others to life imprisonment for killing two men in 2016 for protesting against eve teasing of a seventh grader, reports UNB.

The convicts are Kamal Hossain Malitha of Gopalnagar, Kamrul Paramanik, Sumon Pramanik and Nayan Sheikh of Fakrabad village of Bheramara upazila.

Those sentenced to life imprisonment are Nazrul Sheikh, Abdur Rahim, and Mahfuzur Rahman, Hridoy Ali, Ziaul Islam, and Samrat Ali and Arshaf Malitha of Fakrabad village.

Of the convicts, Nayan, Mahfuzur and Samrat are absconding.

Kushtia Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Munshi Md Moshiar Rahman delivered the verdict.

According to the prosecution, Muzibur Rahman and his uncle Mizanur Rahman were hacked to death by a group of people after they protested against the eve-teasing of a seventh-grader girl on 25 April 2016.

Muzibur’s son filed a case with Bheramara police station over the killing.
