Jatiya Party chairman, HM Ershad, claimed his innocence over the killings of Shaheed Nur Hossain and Dr Milan during the people's upsurge against his rule in 1990. "I'm blamed falsely for the deaths," he said.
The special envoy of the prime minister also said, "Now there is no guaranty of normal death. Many people are killed everyday. Everyday is a mourning day, everyday is a Nur Hossain Day."
Ershad was addressing the memorial meeting on the former JP presidium member Jahangir Mohammad Adel organised by the JP Dhaka city (north) unit at the party's Banani office on Monday.
He said, "Nowadays, there are long talks about Nur Hossain. But none built any memorial at the place of his death. Many people place wreath at the Zero Point roundabout built by me marking the zero point of the capital city. So, they place wreath in memory of Nur Hossain at the structure built by me."
