HC acquits 4 of murdering 8

Overturning the trial court verdict, the High Court on Thursday acquitted all the four condemned convicts in the sensation eight Bangladesh Chhatra League activists killing case of Chittagong.

A designated HC death reference division bench comprising Justice Abdul Hye and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the order after hearing the appeals filed by the convicts against the lower court verdict.

Those who got the acquittal are Sajjad Hossain Khan, Alamgir Kabir, Azam and M Solaiman.

On 12 July 2000 eight BCL  leaders and activists were gunned down by miscreants in a microbus in Bahaddarhat of the port city.

During investigation, it was found that the Islami Chhatra Shibir men carried out the massacre.

A trial court sentenced four people to death and three others to life on 27 March 2008 in the murder case. The three persons who got life are still on the run.

Later, the condemned convicts moved to the High Court against the trial court verdict.
