Another JU student tests coronavirus positive
A student of Jahangirnagar University's (JU) Institute of Information Technology has contracted coronavirus supposedly through his uncle, who works at the fire service in Savar, Dhaka. The student confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo on Monday evening.
Earlier, a student of the university's philosophy department was infected with the novel virus and recovered.
The family members said, his uncle who is working in the fire service came to visit them in Savar on 12 May. The man was reportedly infected with coronavirus on 19 May. The student developed symptoms of coronavirus infections in the meantime. Later he went to Savar Upazila Health Complex with his own sample on Saturday and received the report on Monday.
The student complained that the upazila health complex was not cooperating in testing the samples of his other family members.
“When I went to test my samples, they didn’t want to take it. They gave me a deadline of more than a month to test the sample,” he added.
The student sought the help for conducting tests of the rest of his family.
Mezbah Uddin, director of the Institute of Information Technology at Jahangirnagar University, told Prothom Alo, “We are ready to extend all kinds of cooperation on behalf of the institute.”
Earlier, a student of philosophy department of the university was infected with coronavirus. His father who is a police officer was infected with the highly infectious lung disease virus on 22 April. Later everyone in the family was tested and the student and his mother were found positive for COVID-19.
The student and his family members were tested coronavirus negative after a second round of sample testing from the government's Institute of Epidomology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on 17 May.
They recovered about 20 days after the infection. While the student's father was treated at the hospital, the others were treated at home.
