7kg gold seized from Biman microbus
Customs members seized 60 gold bars weighing around 7 kilogrammes from a microbus of Biman Bangladesh Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Sunday afternoon.
They also detained the microbus driver, Billal Hossain, 50, over the incident, reports UNB.
Based on secret information, a customs preventive team challenged Billal when he was about to cross the hanger gate of the airport around 2:00pm, said Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Customs House.
Searching the microbus, the customs officials recovered 60 gold bars kept hidden inside the interior cover of the vehicle’s door, he said, adding that they also detained Billal.
During primary interrogation, Billal revealed that Amzad, another driver of the national flag carrier, gave him the gold consignment asking him to go out of the airport, Othello said.
Amzad went into hiding soon after the gold bars were seized, the DC Customs added.
