A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) reportedly seized a large amount of firearms and ammunitions from Maheshkhali island in Cox’s Bazar on Saturday night.

RAB claimed that its team found two ‘arms factories’ during the raid in Kalarmarchhara area.

The law enforcement agency also detained two men Md Abdul Hakim, 38, and Md Shahidullah, 31, who RAB claimed are arms manufacturers.

This report, however, could not be verified independently.

RAB said their men seized arms include 20 firearms, 24 rounds of bullets and arms manufacturing equipment.

RAB men started the drive in Maheshkhali of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday evening to detain terrorists. The force members detain Hakim and Shahidullah around 8:00pm. They divulged information of arms’ factories in Kalarmarchhara area of Maheshkhali, the RAB commander said.

Following receiving the information, the force began the drive there, he said.

At a stage of the drive, the terrorists, who took shelter there, fled the spot after a gunfight with the RAB members, he said.

Later, the firearms, bullets and arms manufacturing equipment were seized from the two factories, Mehedi added.
