Prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday laid the foundation stone of an underpass at a road adjacent to Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment School and College in the city.

The underpass will be built as per the commitment the prime minister made after two students of the college were killed in a recent road accident.

Bangladesh Army will implement the project, reports UNB.

On 29 July, Diya Khanam Mim and Abdul Karim Rajib, students of the college, were killed as a bus ploughed through some students in front of Kurmitola General Hospital on airport road in the capital.

The accident sparked off countrywide student movement protesting at the accident.

Amid the movement, the family members of the two students and the principal of the college met the prime minister on 2 August.

During the meeting, Sheikh Hasina promised to construct an underpass nearby the Ramiz Uddin College and provide five buses for its students. On 4 August, the prime minister provided the five buses.
