As one more killed, police blame 'drug traders' gunfight'

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight between two groups of drug traders at Samta village in Sharsha upazila in Jashore early Sunday, reports UNB.

The deceased is Azizur, 40, son of Jeher Ali of the village.

Being informed that there was a gunfight between two groups of drug traders in the village, a team of police went there, said Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sharsha police station.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the gang members fled the scene.

Later, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The victim was accused in several drug-related cases, claimed the OC.

The law enforcement’s versions of the events, however, could not be verified independently as no versions of the incidents were available immediately either from any witness or from the victim’s family.

Quoting rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra, Malaysian-based newspaper New Straits Times reported that around 200 people were killed till July since the anti-drug crackdown in May.
