Man killed in RAB ‘gunfight’
A suspected criminal was killed in what law enforcers claimed a gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Nadibandar area in Tongi early Tuesday.
Tongi police sub-inspector Sumon Bhotto, said tipped off that criminal Jewel, aged around 30 and accused in several cases, including for murder, was secretly staying in the area, a team of RAB-1 conducted a drive there.
Sensing the presence of the elite force, Jewel opened fire on RAB members, forcing them to retaliate, leaving Jewel dead on the spot.
They also recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, one round of bullet and a bullet shell from the spot.
The body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Two RAB members were also injured in the incident.
Jewel was accused in two murder cases, two arms cases and a case under the Woman Repression Prevention Act, said RAB sources.
