RMG workers block Rampura road following co-worker's lynching
The workers of a readymade garment factory have taken position on a Rampura road in the capital demanding justice for their co-worker's killing in mob beating.
According to police, the workers of East Garments blocked the Rampura road on Thursday afternoon after they came to know their colleague Delwar, 25, was lynched on Thursday morning on suspicion of theft in front of another readymade garment factory, Easy Garments, in Hajipara.
Hatirjheel police station sub-inspector, Monwarul Islam, told Prothom Alo that the agitating workers gathered in front of Abul Hotel and vandalised some vehicles, halting vehicular movement of the roads of both sides.
The agitating workers claimed that their co-worker Delwar used to work as a cutting assistant in the factory. They do not know why he went to the Easy Garments.
According to Hatirjheel police, Delwar was beaten dead by a mob. He was rescued and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was pronounced dead by physicians around 1:00pm on Thursday.
