Cop among three killed in road crash
The driver of a covered van and his assistant were killed in a road crash while a policeman was killed being hit by a wrecker during rescue operation at the accident site in Syedpur of Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla on Monday, reports UNB.
The deceased were ASI Akhter Hossain, covered van driver Fahad, 30 from Shenbagh in Noakhali and assistant Suman, 28 from Chandganj in Laxmipur.
A covered van got overturned being hit by another covered van around 5:00am, leaving Fahad and Sumon dead on the spot, said Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Miabazar Highway Police Camp.
After a while, a speedy wrecker hit the police vehicle leaving Akther injured while the ASI was standing beside a police pick up van as he went to the spot to conduct rescue.
Akhter was taken to Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
Police recovered the bodies and seized the covered vans and the wrecker.
