Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader on Sunday said there is nothing against Bangladesh's interests in the bilateral documents signed with India during prime minister Sheikh Hasina's recent visit to the neighbouring country, reports UNB.

"We've noticed some negative discussions on the prime minister's recent India tour and the bilateral documents signed there. We've seen the joint statement and the list of the agreements, but found nothing against the country's interests there," he said.

Quader, also the deputy opposition leader in parliament, said they have the confidence in the patriotism of the prime minister.

Nearly three weeks after the signing of the bilateral documents, the Jatiya Party chief came up with the formal reaction to the issue while addressing a joint meeting of Jatiya Party's organisational teams at party chairman's Banani office.

On 5 October, Bangladesh and India signed seven bilateral documents after a bilateral meeting between prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.

Quader condemned the murder of BUET student Abrar Fahad who was killed following a post on his Facebook wall opposing some deals with the neighbouring country.

He said their party wants proper trial of the murder case and exemplary punishment to those involved in it. "We also expect that such incidents won't recur in the future."

The Jatiya Party chairman hailed the prime minister for carrying out the anti-corruption purge taking a brave decision in this regard.

"She's not sparing her own party men. I hope this drive will continue and Awami League will implement the promises it made in its election manifesto," he said.

GM Quader said they want to move ahead with systematic political programmes to gain public support and strengthen their organisation further.
