Bangladeshi held for ‘housing 100 undocumented expats’ in Maldives
A Bangladesh national has recently been detained on charge of allegedly running an overcrowded ‘guesthouse’ which housed over 100 undocumented expatriates in the Maldives, reported The Edition, a Maldivian media outlet.
The detained was introduced as Mannan Mia, 29.
Quoting Maldives Immigration and Maldives Police Service, the media on Monday said, “Mannan Mia, 29, was arrested on 21 November during a routine inspection conducted jointly with the police in capital Male' City. The authority disclosed that Mia was found to be in violation of the Maldives Immigration Act and running an unregistered guesthouse.”
Maldives Immigration released a video on its Twitter account that shows a shabby and congested building, mostly made from tin, where the reported undocumented migrants took shelter.
