Three arrested over separate 'rape' incidents

Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested a man along with his wife for allegedly raping his sister-in-law (the wife’s sister) at Bank Colony in Savar, according to UNB.

In a separate case, police detained a man for the attempted rape of his 12-year-old daughter in Amin Bazar area.

Jakaria Hossain, inspector at Savar model police station, said the couple – Shaheb Ali and Jesmin - hailed from Sylhet and had been residing at a rented house in Bank Colony of Savar municipality.

Around a year back, Jesmin brought her 14-year-old sister to the residence with a view to getting help during pregnancy.

Few days later, Jesmin fed her younger sister sleeping pills and made Shaheb rape her. He threatened to kill the girl and used to rape her at different times.

Being unable to tolerate the torture, the girl disclosed her ordeal to parents over phone.

Later, the parents took their younger daughter back to Sylhet.

But the couple was hell-bent on torturing her. Jesmin along with the husband went to Sylhet and tried various tactics to manipulate the family and take her sister back to Savar with them.

As the victim’s family sought help from RAB-4 over the incident, members of the elite force detained the couple and rescued the baby on Saturday.

Later, they handed over the duo to police on Sunday after a case was filed over the incident.

Meanwhile, a man – Nur Islam, 35 – was arrested for his alleged rape attempt of his daughter.

The victim’s mother said Nur had long been trying to rape his daughter. On Sunday noon, he attempted to rape her again but received same reaction from the girl.

At one stage, he tried to strangulate her. Hearing the victim’s scream, locals informed police who later detained Nur and rescued the girl.

He will be produced before a court soon, added inspector Jakaria.
