The district administration in Feni has imposed Section 144 from 6am-6pm Wednesday local units of BNP and Jubo League announced simultaneous rallies and events at the same place, reports UNB.
Deputy commissioner (DC) of Feni, Abu Selim Mahmud-ul Hasan said BNP workers were preparing a stage on Tuesday evening for a pre-scheduled event Wednesday at the Wapda area in the city.
While their preparations were underway, members of Jubo League announced a counter rally and event at the same place, said district BNP member secretary Alal Uddin Alal.
After that, BNP again sought permission to hold the rally at the same place on Wednesday. Later the Juba League also appealed for the same.
Unable to reconcile the two sides, Section 144 imposition was announced – in effect rejecting permission to assemble to both parties. It was done to keep the situation under control and maintain peace in the area, DC Abu Selim Mahmud-ul Hasan said.
