Bangladeshi handicrafts exhibited in Pakistan

A daylong handicrafts exhibition organised by the Bangladesh High Commission in Pakistan drew much attention of the viewers on Saturday.

Bangladesh high commissioner in Pakistan Tarik Ahsan inaugurated the exhibition in a hotel of Islamabad, according to a press statement. 

''Handicrafts of Bangladesh are valued for their cultural expression, artistic beauty and environment friendliness. UNESCO has recognised Jamdani and Shital Pati as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2013 and 2017 respectively,'' Tarik Ahsan told the viewers.

The Bangladesh High Commission in the statement said a number of handicrafts items made of muslin, silk, jute and leather were displayed in the exhibition. Besides, an array of home decoration items made from wood, pottery, metal and bamboo were also put on display.

The items include nakshi kantha, jamdani saree, embroidered articles of silk and cotton, hand-bag, terracotta, metal boat, cart, jewellery box, and some other traditional items of rural Bangladesh, the press statement added.
