Sidney, new hero in Bangladesh Federation Cup
Bangladesh Federation Cup has discovered a new hero in its 2019 edition.
Playing for the first time in Bangladesh, Puerto Rico’s national team captain Sidney Adam Rivera has been the top scorer in the Federation Cup. He netted four goals in just two matches for Police FC.
Born and raised in New York of the US, Sidney’s enrollment cast a little ripple among the Bangladesh fans for being a booter of the low-ranking Puerto Rico (178). Sidney was rather appreciated as a former teammate of Brazil’s Ricardo Kaka. Kaka and Sidney were fellows of the Orlando City, a team of the US Major League Soccer.
But, he has won the hearts of Bangladesh fans through his world-class performance.
Sidney bagged top scorer trophy for four goals with two doubles. He took Police to semi-final almost single-handedly. His couple of world-class goals is still vivid in the memory of the Dhaka’s football fans.
Police FC’s Cyprus coach Nicolas Vitorovic said as per the GPS record Sidney runs 12 kilometres per match. It tells all about the 26-year-old forward.
He debuted for Puerto Rico against Grenada in 2019 at the CONCACAF Nations League. In his third match, Sidney was handed the captaincy.
He has so far played six matches for his country and scored two goals.
“I trust myself. I keep trust in my practices. I just wanted to help my team with all-out efforts. I had no personal goal,” Sidney said after winning the award.
Asked about Bangladesh football, Sidney thanked the Police squad and the officials of the team.
“We had huge fun on the grounds. It was exciting to play in a new environment in a new country,” Sidney added.
