Dept development fees not from students: JU
The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Monday abolished the department development fees from masters' courses after facing tough students' protests, reports UNB.
“The university authorities have cancelled the department development fees for the masters' students”, said JU acting registrar Rahima Kaniz.
"We decided to seek the development fees from University Grant Commission (UGC) from next year. However, in the current year, the students will have to pay the department development fees fixed by the authorities", she added.
Earlier on Sunday, an alliance of student organisations of left leaning political parties under the banner of Pragatishil Chhatra Jote besieged the administration building demanding cancellation of department development fees from honours and masters courses.
They withdrew the blockade around at 3pm after deans of different faculties and chairmen of different departments assured them to eliminate the development fees.
