‘Bengali girls buy sari but I buy tickets’
“Bengali girls always prefer to buy sarees or ornaments but I always like to buy tickets,” said Kazi Asma Azmery, who travelled to 100 countries in just nine years, reports UNB.
"I started my journey of travelling by selling my gold ornaments because I had no benefit in wearing ornaments. I think travelling is an investment and knowledge by which you can learn everything. You can learn more by travelling than reading," she said.
She was speaking at a programme held at the Centre for Advanced Research in Arts and Social Sciences, (CARAS) of Dhaka University (DU) on Wednesday.
Sharing her experience with the audience Kazi Asma Azmery said, "I had to suffer a lot and face negligence in different places during travelling just for being a Bangladeshi and for carrying Bangladeshi passport. But Europeans or other developed countries' citizens get hospitality everywhere spending half the amount of money we do.”
"I always carry Bangladeshi passport so that people can know me and my country and I felt proud to do that," she added.
Dhaka University Research Society (DURS) organised the seminar.
DURS president Saifullah Sadeq conducted the programme that was presided over by CARAS senior research fellow Kazi Samio Sis.
Professor at philosophy department of Dhaka University Anisuzzaman and road transport and bridges ministry joint secretary Zakir Hossen also spoke at the programme.
