Volunteering humanises individuals and society

All of them are student and young in their age. Some of them work for the education of the street children, some earn the rights of women, some prevent environmental pollution and some go on free blood donation services for the sick. In mechanical life when everyone is busy in running at the competition, a group of young people is working unselfishly for people.

'Voluntary Award 2020' is starting to encourage young people to volunteer. Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) and Prothom Alo have taken the initiative to recognise good work. As part of this initiative, the VSO-Prothom Alo Voluntary Award meeting was held in Barishal on Saturday. The meeting began at 11:00am at the Prothom Alo Regional Office. Some 50 volunteers from at least 22 voluntary organisations participated in the meeting.

Apart from studying, they are involved in activities that benefit the people, the environment, the society, and the country. Everyone's speech is the same, volunteering enriches people. Volunteering inspires them to do better.

Sajib Mia, chief editor of Prothom Alo's weekly supplement Chhutir Dine was presnt at the program. Private Polytechnic Institute Infra director Md. Amir Hossain spoke as a guest at the discussion meeting. Prothom Alo Barishal representative M Jasim Uddin gave his welcome speech in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Sajib Mia said that the award will be given to volunteers and voluntary organisations working in agriculture, environment and climate, education, sports and culture, health, science and information technology, work-oriented skills development and emergency disaster management.

Guest from Private Polytechnic Institute Infra director engineer Amir Hossain said, “Volunteering is a work that humanises the individual and helps the society to become ethical. I am truly surprised to see so many young people working towards a positive change besides studying.” He thanked VSO and Prothom Alo for the initiative.

On the occasion, the VSO and Prothom Alo videos were displayed.
