Jafar Iqbal Khan, the provost of BUET's Sher-e-Bangla Hall, reportedly tendered his resignation on Wednesday amid protests over the killing of Abrar Fahad.

"The provost has resigned," BUET Teachers' Association president AKM Masud told students after a teachers' meeting.

"The vice-chancellor and the administration body failed to carry out their duties," he said.

Abrar, second year student of Electronic and Electric Engineering, was beaten to death reportedly by leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League at the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall on early Monday.

Provost Jafar Iqbal could not be reached for comments.
