Bank official lands in jail for embezzling Tk 1.79m

A Noakhali court on Thursday sent a senior officer of Sonali Bank Ltd to jail in connection with three cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission for embezzling Tk 1.79 million, reports UNB. 

The accused is Md Nur Nabi, son of Makbul Ahmed Chowdhury of Uttar Kachchapia village in Subarnachar upazila and senior officer of Daganbhuiyan branch of Sonali Bank in Feni district.

An ACC team arrested him from Maizdee in Noakhali on Wednesday noon, said Subel Ahmed, investigation officer of the cases and also assistant director of Naokhali ACC office. 


He said the accused sanctioned a loan of total Tk 1.79 million from Charbata and Subarnachar branches from 2010 to 2016 and embezzled the money by using fake signatures of 51 customers.

Three cases were filed against him in this connection.

After his arrest, he was produced before the court on Thursday when the court sent him to jail.
