CJ stresses building ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu

Chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Thursday said the soul of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will find peace if the nation can build 'Sonar Bangla' as he dreamt of, reports news agency UNB.

“It’ll be our responsibility to work for materialising the dream of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and build Sonar Bangla which he dreamt of. Only then, his departed soul will find peace,” he said.

The chief justice made the remarks at a blood-donation programme at Supreme Court auditorium, marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu and the National Mourning Day.

He described 15 August as the saddest and most terrifying day in the history of the country as the father of the nation along with his most family members were assassinated on that day in 1975.

Mahmud Hossain described the 15 August carnage as the 'most painful and scandalous' chapter in the history of independent Bangladesh. “On this day, the Bengali nation commemorates this greatest son of soil it with deep grief and reverence.”

He thanked the judges, lawyers and the Supreme Court officials and employees who were present there and inaugurated the blood-donation programme.

Appellate Division justice Muhammad Imman Ali, justice Md Nuruzzaman, justice Abu Bakar Siddiquee, and the justices of the High Court Division were present at the programme.

The Transfusion Medicine Department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) provided assistance to the Bangladesh Supreme Court in arranging the blood-donation programme.

Earlier in the morning, the CJ paid homage to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No. 32 in Dhaka.
