Fog disrupts ferry services on 3 routes

Ferry services on Paturia-Daulatdia, Shimulia-Kanthalbari and Shariatpur- Chandpur routes remained suspended since early Monday due to dense fog.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) stopped ferry services from 2:00am, said Salam Hossain, manager of BIWTC Shimulia-Kanthalbari route.

A total of 13 ferries remained stuck in the middle of the river on the three routes, he added.

The suspension of the services caused huge traffic tailbacks on either side of the ferry terminals.

More than 300 vehicles were lined up at the Shimulia-Kanthalbari due to the disruption of ferry service. A total of six ferries were stuck on this route.

Around 10 ferries were stuck in both sides of Daulatdia-Paturia route.

The ferries were stranded with thousands of passengers in the mid-river, causing immense sufferings to passengers.
