A police constable sustained bullet injuries as miscreants attacked and opened fire at a polling centre in Chandnaish upazila of Chattogram on Sunday morning, reports UNB.

The injured constable Farhad Hossain of Chandnaish police station was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Keshab Chakraborty, officer-in-charge of Chandnaish police station, said that a gang of miscreants swooped on the polling station at Purba Chandnaish Government Primary School for rigging before starting of the voting.

At one stage, they opened fire, leaving the on-duty constable injured with bullet.

Earlier, the voting in elections to 117 upazila parishads began in the third phase of the local government polls in the morning.

As many as 33 chairman, nine vice-chairman and 13 woman vice-chairman contestants have already been elected uncontested in the absence of any valid candidate to oppose them in the third phase of the elections.
