A legal notice has been served on shipping minister Shajahan Khan to explain within 24 hours under what authority he is holding the post of executive president of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation, reports UNB.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Eklas Uddin Bhuiyan sent the notice on Thursday by post.

According to the notice, Shajahan Khan was elected an MP unopposed from Madaripur-2 constituency in the general election on 5 January, 2014.

As per the section 148 of constitution, he took oath as minister on 12 January, 2014.

The notice said Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation is an organisation of workers and it works as a collective bargaining agency (CBA). The organisation will take action if any worker gets involved in any wrongdoing.

Being a minister, the holding of the post of president of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation is unconstitutional and morally turpitude, said the notice.

The lawyer also said he will take recourse to law if his notice goes unheeded within 24 hours.
