Three Varendra University students suspended over RU girl’s rape

Authorities of Varendra University (VU) in Rajshahi on Thursday suspended three of its students for their alleged involvement with the rape of a Rajshahi University (RU) student, reports news agency UNB.

The action was taken against second semester students of Law and Justice department Bayejid Ahmed Plabon and Ikhtiar Rahman Rafsan and seventh semester student of Political Science department Tareque Mahmud Joy, said a notice of the VU public relations office.

The notice said, the three students are collaborators of the prime accused, Mahfuzur Rahman Sarod, a student of Economics department at Rajshahi University.

A committee was formed to investigate their involvement with incident and it found the evidence of their link.

Sarod allegedly raped a female student of the university at his mess at Kazla on 24 January with the help of his friends -– Plabon, Rafsan, Joy, Jibon and Bishal.

They filmed the incident and demanded Tk 50,000 from the victim threatening to release the video on the internet.

Police arrested Mahfuzur, Plabon and Rafsan and seized the video from their possession after the victim’s parents filed a case with Motihar police station in the city on 27 January.

Jibon and Joy, two other friends of the accused, were arrested on Friday night while Bishal is still absconding.
