Top terror Jisan’s close associate held

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a close associate of top underworld terror Jisan from Mohammadpur in the early hours of Saturday, reports UNB.

The arrestee was identified as Mazharul Islam alias Shakil alias Shakil Mazhar, 35.

Based on a tip-off, an operational team of RAB-2 conducted a drive at Mohammadpur bus stand area around 5:10am.

During the drive, the elite force arrested Shakil and recovered two foreign made pistols, two magazines and six rounds bullets from his possessions, said lt col Sarwar Bin Kashem, director (media) of the RAB headquarters.

Briefing reporters at RAB's Karwan Bazar media centre on Saturday afternoon, Sarwar Bin Kashem said during preliminary interrogation, the arrestee revealed that he has been involved in extortion and also involved in criminal activities in favour of the listed fugitive top terror Jisan.

He started student politics when he was studying in Jagannath University in 2005. Later, he was involved in tender-related works jointly in 2009 and it was continued till 2012.

Shakil returned his village home in Feni and joined in politics alongside running a family shop. He returned Dhaka again in 2015 and started politics but he was involved in rivalry with Juba League leader Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan.

He fled to China four days after he was made one of the prime accused in Dhaka city south assistant secretary of Juba League Rajib killing case in June of 2016. He stayed in China till 2018 and then went to Dubai where he stayed there upto 2000.

Shakil came in contact with Jisan when he was staying in Dubai in 2020 upto January. During his stay in Dubai, Shakil was kept in touch with Jisan. And he was involved in various criminal activities in Bangladesh.

Finally, he was arrested by RAB-2 on early Sunday.
