UGC probe body recommends withdrawal of BSMRSTU VC

The probe body formed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) has recommended withdrawing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University vice chancellor Khondoker Nasiruddin on charges of irregularities, corruption and willfulness.

The five-member committee also recommended taking legal actions against Nasir for his alleged irregularities and corruption.

The report has been submitted to the chairman of UGC as well as the education ministry, UGC member Dil Afroza Begum confirmed to Prothom Alo.

She, however, declined to make further comments.

Students of the university have been agitating for 11 days demanding the resignation of the VC.

Under the circumstances, on 23 September the education ministry requested the UGC to report on the overall situation of the university.

On 24 September, a five-member committee led by UGC member Muhammad Alamgir was formed. The committee paid a visit to the university in Gopalganj on 25 September and carried an investigation for two days.

The other members of the committee are UGC members Dil Afroza Begum and Sazzad Hossain and UGC directors Kamal Hossain and Mouli Azad (member secretary).
