A woman gave birth to a baby at the main entrance of Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj on Sunday night after allegedly being denied services at the hospital by the duty doctor, reports UNB.

The victim was identified as Rahima Khatun, 22, of Rupshachar village in the upazila.

Abdur Rahim, the victim's husband, said Rahima was taken to the hospital on Sunday night after she went into labour.

But the duty doctor - Banasree Saha - released her few hours later without providing any treatment and suggested taking her to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogura, saying she is suffering from anemia, he said.

However, Rahima gave birth to a baby at the main entrance of the hospital while she was boarding a CNG-run auto-rickshaw to leave the hospital.

"My wife didn't get treatment despite repeated requests to the duty doctor. The doctor was even talking over mobile phone without paying any heed to the requests," Rahim said.

Dr Ramesh Chandra Saha, superintendent of the hospital, said he is now on leave and will form a probe body to look into the incident after joining his workplace.
