3 killed as train hits private car at Dinajpur rail crossing

Three people were killed when a train collided with a car in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur on Wednesday.

The accident took place at around 6:30am when the Kurigram Express train from Dhaka to Kurigram hit the car in Ghoraghat Rail Ghunti area of ​​the upazila.

One of the three killed in the accident was Hafizur Rahman, of Madhyapara area of ​​Parbatipur upazila.

Citing locals, Birampur police inspector (investigation) Mahbubur Rahman said passengers were traveling in private vehicles from Birampur to Joypurhat. The train collided with the vehicle while crossing the Ghoraghat railway area. The microbus spun 10 yards away from the rail track. Three passengers in the car died on the spot, he added.

Birampur rail crossing gateman, Saifuzzaman claims, “I gave the train a whistle to leave at 6:30am. Rail crossing gate is being repaired. That's why the place has been barricaded with ropes. Two trucks stopped at the signal. But the private car enters the spot without stopping at the signal. That's when the accident took place."
