One killed, 7 injured in collision between bus, covered van

One person was killed and seven others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a bus and a covered van on the Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway in Laksam upazila on Friday morning, reports UNB.

The deceased was the driver of the covered-van but his identity could not be known yet, said Maksudul Hasan, the in-charge of Laksam highway crossing police outpost. The seven injured are currently being treated at a local hospital, he said.

The accident occurred this morning when the Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Himachal Express crashed into the van coming from the opposite direction on the Noakhali road as the other traffic lane was closed for repairs.

The bus skidded off the road and fell into a roadside drain, locals told UNB.

Maksudul suspect the accident occurred due to low visibility due to heavy fog on the highway.
