Bangladesh logs 42 more virus deaths, 2,744 new cases

Bangladesh has reported 42 more deaths from coronavirus while 2,744 more people have been newly diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Nasima Sultana, said this during a regular online briefing on Wednesday.

On the 137th day of detection, the death toll now stands at 2,751 and the latest figures take the total number of infections in the country to 213,254, according to the briefing.

Bangladesh first reported death from coronavirus on 18 March while the first case was confirmed on 8 March.

She also said a total of 12,055 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of them, 2,744 were diagnosed with coronavirus.

The rate of detection in the last 24 hours was 22.77 per cent while the overall rate of detection of coronavirus infected cases in Bangladesh as of Wednesday is 19.99 per cent, Nasima Sultana said.

Across the country 1,805 more patients made recovery, Nasima Sultana said adding that so far 117,402 people have recovered from the deadly disease.

She said 42 of the victims who died in the past 24 hours 30 were men while 12 were women.

She also said a total of 12,055 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of them, 2,744 were diagnosed with coronavirus.
