Bangladesh logs around 2,200 virus cases as only 8,802 samples tested

Bangladesh has reported 21 more deaths from coronavirus while 2,199 more people have been newly diagnosed with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Nasima Sultana, said this during a regular online briefing on Saturday.

On the 147th day of detection, the death toll now stands at 3,132 and the latest figures take the total number of infections in the country to 239,807, according to the briefing.

And the current infection rate is 24.98 per cent.

She also said a total of 8,802 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of them, 2,199 were diagnosed with coronavirus.

Bangladesh first reported death from coronavirus on 18 March while the first case was confirmed on 8 March.

Across the country 1,117 more patients made recovery, Nasima Sultana said adding that so far 136,253 people have recovered from the deadly disease.

She also said a total of 8,802 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of them, 2,199 were diagnosed with coronavirus.
