Bangladesh virus deaths near 2,000

Twenty-nine more patients died of coronavirus while 3,288 more people were newly diagnosed with COVID-19 in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours.

Additional director general of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Nasima Sultana, said this during a regular online briefing on Saturday.

On the 119th day of detection, the death toll now stands at 1,997 and the latest figures take the total number of infections in the country to 159,679, according to the briefing.

Bangladesh first reported death from coronavirus on 18 March while the first case was confirmed on 8 March.

Across the country 2,673 more patients made recovery, Nasima Sultana said adding that so far 70,721 people have recovered from the deadly disease.

She also said a total of 14,727 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Of them, 3,288 were diagnosed with coronavirus.
